A little more info on Madrid

Madrid this year, as stated earlier, will have a C1 Pro race on saturday instead of the C2 Pro Race.  A short C1 sprint will also be held prior to the marathon for cash prizes.

However, the C2 Amateur races will still be held on Saturday as they have been in past years.

And races on Sunday will be the same as in the past.

Amy and Bernie said they will update their website with the new information soon.

Wessels –

Wessels (The Lower 35, that isn’t really anything resembling the lower 35 anymore) was today.  And much to my chagrin, not in the least bit shallow.

I don’t have a lot of results yet, an email has been sent to Curley and as soon as he gets them to me I’ll post them on the results section.

But Mathieu St Pierre and Matt Rudnitsky edged out Pellerin and Ben Schlimmer for the win, Third was Eric Gagnon and Guillaume Blais.

First Mixed, Bruce Lee and Pam Fitzgerald, Second Mixed Marc and Adrienne Gillespie

First Womens: Sarah Lessard and Holly Reynolds, Second Mary and Theresa Schlimmer.

Two weeks til the 70 (the Clinton, New York, Cooperstown, whatever you call it!)

Canton Weekend

Nothing stops us Forgers, well almost nothing.

The New York contingent (the more responsible half of us anyway, MAY have gotten lost on the way to Canton, and may not have realized that we were on route 37 instead of route 11 for, oh, 30 minutes or so. but after some gpsing and iphoneing, got us to our destination, only 10 minutes or so behind schedule.  The less responsible half of us, had problems of their own getting to Canton on time, but we shall just, for lack of time, just refer to those as #schlimmerproblems.

Besides that, the most dipsy doodle member of our group, may have gotten confused and changed the footstraps to be the right size for her shoes…on someone else’s boat….

Oh yeah, the race! The C1 race on saturday had a pretty good turnout, I think 21 boats on the line. From my view, I don’t really get to see a lot of the race, So my perspective is limited to the sprint lap buoy, the top buoy (bits and pieces, that damn island blocks my view) and then the little river.

I was feeling pretty sorry for myself at the start, that I wasn’t able to handle the big waves, and wasn’t able to catch a super fast wake at the start, but after about a minute in, when Marc passed me, I felt a little better that my start might not have been the worst one :) .  At the buoy, despite a valient effort by Matt, Serge took the lead, and according to Marc, “I looked up and said, WOW look, Matt is riding Ser…oh nevermind”.  For the sprint lap bonus, it was Serge 1 Matt 2 and Steve Rankinen 3.  At the top buoy, Serge had a commanding lead, and Matt and Steve were drafting each other in 2nd/3rd.  Ben Schlimmer, Nick Walton, Bob Rapant and Marc Gillespie were the next people in a drawn out pack. As you know from the results, Serge with the win, Steve edged out Matt for second place, Nick Walton 4th, Ben 5th, Bob Rapant 6 and Marc 7. Holly won C1 woman, and the sprint lap, Mary Schlimmer earning second

To me Canton is mostly about the C1 day, but in the act of equality, C2, Matt Rudnitsky and Nick Walton dominated. Marc and Bob Rapant, despite a less than ideal start, proved their grit, by coming back and finishing a very admirable 5th. Mike raced with PO Quesnel and finished 7th, and Ben Schlimmer and Jon Santor gave up their race efforts to assist a team that had trouble in the rock garden, earning them sportsman of the year award.  Holly and Jason managed 1st mixed edging Matthieu St Pierre and Sarah Lessard and Mary and Theresa Schlimmer were 2nd womens to the ever improving Parke Sister.

Another Canton in the books, Thanks Chuck for putting on the race!
